The PSSH
is the legal successor of the Albanian Labour Party (PPSH), the single party in the country during the Communist rule, dissolved in June 1991.
Back in power in 1997, the party lost the 2005 elections, which
caused the resignation of its historic chairman Fatos Nano, Prime
Minister of the first transition government (February-June 1991) and
in 1997-1998 and 2002-2005.

The party symbols are prescribed in Article 6 of the party statutes as follows:
1. The symbol of the PPSH represents a hand holding a red rose. The symbol shall be used on the party's seal, emblem and flag.
2. The emblem of the PPSH is made of the party's symbol, surmonting the letters "PSE" (Party of European Socialists) and surrounded by a green ring charged with the writing "PARTIA SOCIALISTE E SHQIPERISE 1991" in white capital letters.
3. The flag of the PPSH is pink with the party's emblem in the middle.
[...] The use of the party's symbols is permitted only to the party's institutions at the national and local levels.
The flag of the PSSH can be seen, for instance, on photos taken during a demonstration jointly organized with LSI, 17 February 2007.
